Obama made me money.

Usually I’m not discussing politics, because not everyone can agree about opinions, and that’s the surest way to raise trouble, but today I just want to make a quick mention about Obama, and how I just made money thanks to him.
By the way, I was talking in one of my previous posts about how you must be persistent and put effort to make money.
With so much attention on Obama, I had to do something to take advantage on this situation. And that’s the point I was making in my previous post, today it is Obama, yesterday was Paris Hilton, who knows who it will be tomorrow? But that’s a work of everyday, you can’t just find one thing and it’s gonna work forever. You have to search everyday for new opportunities to increase your online business.
Anyway the trick here was to leverage his popularity in order to generate cash.
I went to my sponsor, and set up some pay-per-lead campaigns.
I created a couple of html pages, each one with the affiliate banner for the campaign, and some text talking about Obama, which was easy to find there is so many content written about him.
with subdomains, I had a structure like:
http://insurance.whyobama.com
With a page having an quick article about Obama talking about the insurance system. Then in big characters a sentence saying “And you? are you sure you’ve got the right insurance? Take a couple of minutes to do a quick check, it’s FREE and private. A couple of minutes could change your life.”

I was set then, I just needed to get traffic.
So I just used a good traffic source: Youtube!
I created youtube accounts, 5 for each websites. This can be long if you do it manually so I used a script I wrote, Youtube accounts creator. You can get it for free here. Yes you don’t need to pay $40 for those accounts creators, just use mine, it works well 
I waited for the day of his inauguration speech. Just ripped the video from a website, and started to edit it.
I cut five interesting 30 seconds clips, then I added at the end of them some text:”want to know what Obama thinks about insurance? go to http://insurance.whyobama.com” etc.
I just had to upload videos on my youtube accounts. Why 5 accounts for each video? Because then I could change the title and description, and tags!!! I just made a quick run into google keywords suggestion to find good ideas.
Then I just had to wait…. Within the first day I already had traffic, some of my videos had good views numbers, some not, but the important is that I got instant traffic.
And that’s it, it was the perfect opportunity, people were going to want to watch videos of Obama. Redirecting the traffic to my sponsored websites was easy. I had leads, and made money while I was sleeping.
The best is that you have important events every week, if you wanted you could do this all the time and getting piles of money.
And don’t forget seasonal subjects… Like tax season coming upon us…
TIP: The superbowl is this weekend, it’s gonna be perfect for this project! Just get ready, it takes a couple of hours to set everything up, you should be rolling quickly!
But that’s not a magical trick, it needs work and dedication if you want to make a lot of money on the long run. If you do it just a couple of times you wll make only a little extra money. When you get the hang of it, go on, do it to the max, that’s the way you’ll get a lot.

You might have gotten success with it but from my experience YouTube traffic converts like shit.
I’m not even talking about selling to somebody who’s not even interested (i.e. people searching for Obama stuff are not really trying to find a new insurance contract for themselves). I’ve even been trying it for people who are actually interested (i.e. redirecting people to my website and trying to plug packs of videos related to a specific kind of craft for people who were searching for that craft’s videos) and it blows.
The conversions were less than 0.002%. And I tried different copies, products and prices.
Those people are just not interested.
I suggest you do something that adds value and stick to it so that you don’t have to keep searching for new lame ideas for your whole life.
Say, take the guys who started japanesepod101.com. They have a podcast and they subscriptions for some extra content.
They just keep growing their site and providing value. Do you think they keep on searching for new sites to make every week? Hell no.
That’s my take.

HI Lyzz, sorry about your situation, still it’s good you wrote, because your comment raises two points.
Just one thing before I answer, I receive many emails from people who want to make money, so if you’re in this case, DO try this post, it doesn’t take much time to set up and even if you fail at it, you’ll have learnt things, and it will give you the kick in the ass you need to get started.
Anyway, my first point here:
Youtube video converts badly… True, most of the time youtube traffic doesn’t compare to organic SE traffic,
BUT it is source of INSTANT visitors AND the traffic is so huge that even with poor conversion, it’s worth exploiting it. For instance, I got 30000 views in 3 days on one of my videos. But of course it is not enough. Your success depends on how you sell it, what you write and how you write it.
E.g.
Find the best insurance for your car.
vs
Your car insurance could be cheaper, with a better coverage. When you have an accident, it will be too late, so check it here NOW. It just takes 5 minutes!
see what I mean?
Also, like anything, just do a little research before you try to sell anything. If you try to sell something that is hard to sell, don’t expect to get “magic” results.
There are sponsors paying for people voting if they prefer pepsi or coca cola. This kind of stuff is stupid and works even on shitty traffic. I don’t even tell you what it gives when you couple that to pepsi/coke commercials.
My second point, setting up some website to sell something, and growing it up slowly by adding interesting content, with a goal to make it valuable enough so people will come to it naturally. That’s called whitehat. And yes, that’s a way of doing things.
It’s harder to make money, it takes time (often years), but once it is working, the revenue is more stable.
Blackhat is more about finding shortcuts to make money, knowing that whatever shit you’ll throw, it’s not gonna stick, and you’ll have to repeat.
These are two different ways of making it. Can’t say that one is better than another, I guess it depends on your tastes.
Personally I’m more in the middle, trying to find shortcuts, without going too much over the line, I guess that’s how I still have my adsense account.
But at the end, black, gray or white, it’s always the same story. It’s work, work and work. The web is magic, you can make money out of thin air, still you can’t be successful without effort.

Well, I definitely need money (who doesn’t) so I’m trying this out. Having problems with the video creation, though. Gone through 3 programs with no luck editing video files properly. Still looking for something that works properly and is free. :/ Mind if I ask what program you use for your video editing?
To edit videos, I would advise one of these:
- Windows Movie Maker (free)
- Cyberlink Powerdirector ($100)
To convert videos, there is Mediacoder which is FREE and really great.
If you’re having problems with some videos, convert them in AVI/MPEG1 with Mediacoder, they will work better with Windows Movie Maker
Oh yeah and Windows movie maker comes bundled with Windows, so unless you’re on Mac Os X or Linux, you already have it on your computer.

I tried it out with XAMPP as well, and while the first page loads the captcha, once I submit that I get an Object not found! page. Guess I keep looking for free hosts that work for now.
Meh, what free host did you try which gave you problems?
Also, with the “object not found”, did you check if you received the confirmation email anyway? And did you use a proxy?

FYI, I put these tips in action for valentine’s day.
Guess what? I got 10 times more response than usual (normal things I promote brings me 25% results, the valentine’s day special brings me 180%!!!)
