Free Pad Submitter

Filed under: Tools and scripts — Alan @ 5:02 pm

[Feb 2009 - I updated my Free Pad Submitter to submit to 88 sites. It works back to 100%]

I took my stats of 2008, looked at which software repositories brought me the best traffic & links, and updates my Free Pad Submitter, to the count of 88 softwares repositories.

Why? Because I use 3 of the most popular Pad Submitters (which you MUST PAY), and I have seen a decrease of quality since 2007, they add new sites regularly but they don’t care about HOW BAD the websites are.

What’s the point of spending hours to submit your software if it ends on crappy software repositories with Alexa rank of 1,000,000+, PR 1 or 2, and virtually no downloads of your software?

So before your pay, give a shot at my Free Pad Submitter.

———————————–

Pad submitter is a free tool that will AUTOMATICALLY submit your pad file to 88 software repositories.
Current version is 0.5 beta (which means that it is still in improvement, please subscribe to the RSS feed from this website to stay informed about updates).

What it does:

- Submit your Pad file to 88 websites.
- You can make a batch submission of several pad files.
- The program is multi threaded, thus it goes as fast as your internet connexion is, and doesn’t stall on faulty websites.
- Totally free.
- Run on windows, but is written in Java. If you need it on other OS, please contact me.

More explanations:
When you create a software, you can get it promoted through software repositories.
You need to create a PAD file, which is a file that contains information about your software.
To generate a pad file, please use the free Pad Generator software PadGen.
Once you have your Pad file, you must upload it to your website.

Execute then Pad Submitter, and give the URL of your pad file.
You’ll get your software immediatly promoted (to 150 websites will be available on v1.0, will still be for free).
This way you’ll get also many links to your website from valuable places. The software repositories that I chose are considered as trusted websites, and have a PR 4,5 or 6.
It will increase your ranking in the search engines.

Why 100 websites when other softwares can submit up to 1000 ?
For 2 reasons:
1 - From experience, when submitting your software, having it on 100 well chosen websites is enough. Above 100 websites, the promotion doesn’t increase significantly anymore.
2 - I wrote this software because I was unhappy with other submission softwares (I paid more than $300 to buy 3 different softwares). Try the trial versions to understand what I am talking about. You can spend $100 on a software that will submit to 1000 websites. then only 60-70% will succeed. Wait 6 months, start tracking the results, you will see that actually maybe 10% of the websites are sending you traffic! So why pay $100 to get the same result as my free software?

Hi Alan,

This is cool stuff here :). I’ll go and test it after finishing my site. Btw, excited on v1 :)

Holy crap, wish you would have come out with this 2 months ago, would have saved me 300 hours of submitting with Promosoft :).

I think your analysis is accurate, that only a fraction of software directories actually send traffic. It doesn’t really hurt to submit to the other ones just for link value alone, but it’s definitely marginal benefits that you shouldn’t be spending $100 for exclusively if a tool like yours exists.

Really looking forward to the full version!

This looks like a very cool idea. A couple of suggestions.
- I think users would appreciate more information on the sites being submitted to. I was really a bit reluctant to click Submit without knowing what was going to happen to my PAD file.
- Why not make the database of sites user updateable via a website? With tools like Promosoft and Robosoft you are basically paying for the developer to keep on updating the database. If this is going to be a free tool then you could get the users involved in keeping the database updated.

- I will post the list of websites where the software is submitted, you can actually see it in the log window when you do the submission.

- Brilliant idea, I am going to implement it. Definitely it is feasible.

Still all stolen content by our software. Just renaming the variables and files doesn’t mean its all his work…he simply stole all from our program and made it free. We will try to get that solved in court.

Ok GSA, I will let your comments because it’s funny to see how ridiculous you are, at least your other competitors are smarter. Please send me your lawyer, your mother, even your dog… (I’d prefer that you send me your sister though).
What’s funny is that you made a software that you sell for an insane price, and you feel threatened by my free software that I coded in one week, to me, that says a lot on the quality of your program.
Once for all: I did not steal your pants, your house or your code, using scripts to submit screensavers is something every pad submitter does (so send your lawyer to promosoft and robosoft because they probably use the same principle).
And by the way I let my code reverse-engineerable because I wanted to let you have a look on how I do so you can stop crying.
Go back to do some real coding instead of whining.

1. Im not whining. All I want is that you admit that you stole alot of the ideas/configs from other software. You simply take other peoples work and use it without even mention it.

2. You have no pad editor, no threads, no email-sending, no complex forms, no category system, nothing…of course you can code that in one week. All the other software has a lot more in it.

3. the price for our software is not insane but fair.
A one month license (enough to submit your software once) is less then $30 … how is that insane?

4. I dont see you as a competitors. I don’t care how much scripts, urls or whatever you have in your software as long as you don’t steal them from other software like ours.

Guess what…we invest many hours to keep the software up to date. Thats of course more timeintense than stealing new scripts from others to be up to date. So of course we have to take money for it to survive.

Oh and tnx for the “_ReverseEngineers-Readme.txt”…sooo funny.

Ok, you might be right that for now you have nothing from our software insite your exe.

But you had in v0.2 and I am sure you would have chancged nothing if I wasn’t sending you mails (that you didn’t answered).

So good luck with v0.4 or whatever. Just get me right stealing other peoples work is something I hate and will never tollerate. I have nothing against your software (as it pretents to do the same as ours).

That’s the whole point I didn’t make my software because I am trying to do something better than any other commercial pad submitter: Yours (GSA), or Promosoft or Robosoft are more elaborate, period.
And by the way using any commercial product is good to get free backlinks easily, I got a bunch of PR4 pages on my screensavers pages thanks to Promosoft…

I just realised that I could reduce the numbers of websites where I would submit to much less than the usual 1000+ commercial submitters propose, and still get good traffic.
So my only goal is to give a free alternative for people who want their softwares to be promoted on a decent amount of website.
I was thinking of encrypting my code but I will never do so anyone can check that the code included is not stolen, and now I am even thinking of releasing it opensource so anyone can have a look at the full code. But we’ll see…

And once again I am surprised (and actually flattered) how such a small program I made in a hurry could get so much attention (even negative ones) from “big players” in the pad submitters world!

Dear Alan,

somehow i can’t send you emails anymore so i write here instead.

releaseing source:
Since its in java, you gave already the source out ;)

Anyway since in v0.3 nothing from our soft seams to be included (it wasn’t in v0.2) its all fine now for me. So good luck with your tool.

I have a quick question about using pad files.

You mentioned above that the pad file should be uploaded to our site. Shouldn’t we also upload the actual files themselves?

Thanks for any clarification.

When you are talking about “actual files”, do you mean the screensaver exe?
If so, yes you must have on your website your screensaver, your pad file.
In your pad file you have different references to files:
Search in your pad for the text “Application_URLs”, you will see all the URLs pointing to your screensaver page, the screenshot, the order page, the pad file, and the screensaver exe/zip file.

Those should ACTUALLY exist before you start submitting your PAD.

Always validate your PAD file before submitting it:

Hi Alan,
I just used your free submitter for the first of 5 apps. Very fast and easy!

I’m not doing the screensaver idea or the ppi, just submitting some apps I have for some other types of affiliate programs.

Thanks very much for the help and the free submitter.

Best,
Stephan

Thanks!
Just know that next versions will be backward compatible, which means you can reuse next versions (which will include more websites) on the same PADs than now and only the not-submitted websites (the new ones in this case) will be submitted.

Hi!
Good job!
It should have some kind of timeout settings because if a site is temporally unavalaible it keeps trying too long

Good feedback, I’ll take care of it.
BTW, sorry for not updating the tool yet, I am working far from home, and from the computer with the sourcecode… I’ll be back working on it end of next week!

Thanks man. This made it very easy to get my screensavers out to the first 50 sites. I would love to look at the code and see how to add the other 950 or so sites.. it can’t hurt …

I download and used the submitter about 12 hours ago. I must confess that I was a little taken aback (and a little in doubt) when the submission process got completed in less than 3 minutes.

Problem is: 12 hours after submission, only 2 emails confirming my submission. What about confirmation from the other 58 sites? Anything I’m doing wrongly?

Thanks for sharing freely…

Not all websites will validate your software submission automatically, so you might receive emails in the following weeks, when the site owner validates them manually.
But anyway, I guess I also have to update the software, I’m gonna spend some time for that, and put a new version.

How can we archieve this? Also I would like to see a Linux version of this tool, because I use that system mainly…

Fantastic idea, it worked for me, kind of. Submitted all the sites but when it started reporting the succesful ones it stopped after the first 3. Is this normal / to be expected?

Also would be handy if the site list was stored in an external txt file so that we could add to it ourselves, but thanks for a great idea.
