The magic Filter

Filed under: General — Alan @ 9:09 pm

Hi, this post won’t be about giving some specific tip on making money, but I felt I needed to repeat some ideas to help you make it.

When I wanted to make money, thanks to the internet, I was chasing the one great idea. There were so many stories about people who got a great idea and became rich. Think of the One million dollars page, with this student selling blocks of pixels where people could put a link to their website. He managed to earn 1 million in a couple of months… Great! Why we didn’t think of that?

The problem is that we hear all those wonderful stories every day, and we live in this world where we’re led to believe that there is a magic filter.

A filter that separates the average persons from the successful ones.

It seems that we just need to find that great thing, that one gateway to become rich/famous/powerful etc.

But that’s a big lie, there’s no such magic filter. There are some good ideas, but they’re negligible in numbers, compared to the normal way to become successful.
It’s like bands, they all believe that they just need to get signed by a record company, and with this contract, they will move from unknown artists to superstars.

It doesn’t work like that, look at the majority of billionaires… They’re old. Why? Because they spent time and effort before they became successful.

There’s always this equation I believe is accurate:

Consider money, effort and time.
You can choose two of the three you need to spend if you want to achieve something. Only two. Take your pick.

I could spend 6 months of holidays, visiting Australia and caressing kangaroos, going to France and drinking wine, etc.
But that’s not because I had found one magical solution, it’s because I had slowly spent time and effort to create money-making sources.

You want to make more money, you want more freedom, even with the current crisis, that’s definitely achievable. Hell, I didn’t notice more than a 10% drop in my revenue even if we’re meant to be in trouble. And that’s more likely because I wasn’t touching a thing on my websites.

So yeah, that’s a path, to be able to make money, and the hardest is that you’ve got to stick with it, it’s not always fun, like your everyday job, you’ll have to do many boring tasks.
But if you keep it up and work steady you’ll be able to be more successful at the end of this year than today.

In a few days I’ll post the details of a little project I am currently doing and that illustrates my point.

And even better, it makes me a bit of easy money. So there’s no way you couldn’t make something out of it.

See you quickly!

Happy new year etc.

Filed under: General — Alan @ 10:54 am

Hi people, it’s been a long time I didn’t post, the truth is, I had been working non-stop for two years on my websites and needed some rest, so I took 6 months of holidays. That’s the cool part of having websites that bring automatic streams of income. But now I’m back in business.

To the people who wrote me about the adult blog project, I’m keeping your email, and I will contact you later this year. I’m currently setting up the adult blog project v3. So please be a little patient.

Meanwhile I’m gonna put a serie of posts about another money-making opportunity that you can try. It’s a longer-term project, but a reliable one.

I’ll try to put a couple of hints also, as you can guess, it takes time to write and I’m working on some new projects for myself, but I won’t forget you :)

So happy new year and I wish you make money this year!

Send quadcores to hell

Filed under: General, Tools and scripts — Alan @ 9:26 am

recycle old computers and don't buy a new quadcore

Hi guys, usually I don’t talk about others stuff than making money on my blog, but I really wanted to share this.

I’m working with 2 monitors on my computer. If you don’t work on two screens yet, you should. Even if it’s using an old monitor as a second screen, it boosts your productivity. More than 2 monitors is for ego, but really 2 screens is a plus.

If you didn’t realize it yet, everytime you switch from what you’re working on to some other application, you’re losing your focus for some minutes when you switch back to your work, and along the day, sum up all the minutes, it’s a huge loss of time.

With 2 monitors, you can have your main screen with your work, and the other screen can gather all the secondary applications (e.g. email, chat, web browser, skype, p2p apps…). So when you switch from your work to something else, you lose less focus. And sometimes it’s good to be able to watch two things at the same time. Like reading a tutorial on a website on one screen, and doing the actions on the other screen.

An extra note, I’m following the GTD method to boost my productivity, have a look at it, it’s really great. Also when I’m really busy, I even don’t let my email client run in the background, I start it only three times a day, answer urgent mails, then close it. That prevents me from losing time on not-so-critical emails conversations.

My computer runs on a dual core processor. And I was considering getting a quad core, as my dual core is not powerful enough for all my apps running. If I list the minimum number of apps I get running simultaneously during the day I have : local web server, local database server, Firefox with 10+ tabs open, internet explorer, database client, FTP client, Mail client, Notepad++, Eclipse, XML editor, Regex Editor, Winamp, emule, muTorrent, pidgin, skype, tor+vidalia, antivirus, and multiple explorer windows.

I had another problem, it was synchronization with my laptop. A farmer can’t spend a day without taking care of his animals. When you have multiple websites, it’s the same, except that your websites are your animals. So I always need to be able to go anywhere with my work even if I leave for a week.

Then I eventually stumbled upon a fantastic tool to share computer, called Synergy.

With it you can share your computer keyboard and mouse with another computer. It’s really straightforward. You’re on your master computer, where you type and navigate with the mouse, then you just go to the edge of your screen and the mouse go to the other computer screen. At this point you can do any action on the other computer without switching mouse or keyboard.

And this is when I realized I didn’t even need some newer computer. Now I work on my laptop, so I can go mobile anytime I want without the hassle of synchronizing. And on my desktop I have all secondary apps either in portable version or installed on my desktop.

The portable apps are mail client, for instance, everything I really need to be able to share, they’re running from an external drive than I can take with me and plug anywhere I want.

The apps on the desktop are more p2p, mp3, etc. These are the ones I can let at home for a couple of days and not miss them.

So if you have a slow computer and you want to boost your productivity, instead of buying a brand new machine, get one extra old computer with screen (ask to family or friends, I’m sure there is one in someone’s attic). Install synergy, and share the load between the two machines. Not only working on two screens will make you able to do some tasks much faster, but you also won’t need to spend some money on a new machine, while many “old” machines are powerful enough for most of your tasks.

And I recommend that you install Linux on one of the machines. Whether or not you intend to program and do technical stuffs, it’s a great experience to work on the unix system.

Ok, last note, I’m going away for three weeks of holidays… One week enjoying the fine food and wine in the south of France, then one week surfing on the atlantic coast. Last week will be with my family, then I’ll come back to work!

I still have a great post to share with you. It’s a full description of a money making project I can’t do because of lack of time, so instead of letting it rot away, I prefer to share it with you… In case I have the time to write it before my holidays you’ll get it otherwise I write to you in august!

The nasty way to make money

Filed under: Blackhat, General — Alan @ 7:26 pm

1) Buy/steal any ebook that explains how to make money…

2) Paraphrase it, and write your own. Usually a 40 pages document full of shit is enough. Do not forget to fill it with affiliate links in case of some fool would actually follow the outdated/crappy advices you put in it

3) Make an annoying website that tells one is gonna make 1 million within next month if one downloads your ebook for a nice price (your price must end with a 7, why ? Because years ago someone did some study somewhere that says that if you end your price with the number 7, you’re gonna sell your shit much more. And, funny thing, everyone still believes it). So let’s say $47.77

Of course don’t forget to put intrusive javascript of a fake sale agent on your website so the poor guy is annoyed until he agrees to buy your crap.

4) And because you’re cheap, don’t buy google adwords. Instead, search for a list of marketing blogs that talks about making money (there is a gazillion of such blogs – mine included). Then spam blindly each owner and say you loved their blog (that you actually didn’t even look at), and you’re looking for a great business partner, and the guy seems to be the one. But he’s got to hurry otherwise you’ll have to find another partner. The deal is simple. He writes a post on his website telling how great your ebook is and that everyone who wants to make money should buy it, and by the way his readers can have a great deal… $37,77 instead of $47.77, but only for the first 500 (even if the poor guy has only 30 readers).
What does he get in exchange? 50% of any sale of your ebook made through his website.

Don’t laugh, all this sounds terribly lame, but it actually works, at the cost of clueless/naive people who are desperate to make money.

I’ll repeat it over and over, because I want people to avoid such trap : There is a ton of money on the internet, plenty of opportunities, you can literally make money out of thin air. but THERE IS NO SHORTCUT. Only CONSISTENCY will bring you the money. You don’t know where to start? Look at my beginners project to make money through newsletter and start TODAY. And don’t give up.

You have to write an e-book.

Filed under: General — Alan @ 10:51 am

I’m taking a bit of time to give you a few tips about writing an e-book,

But before a few updates.
I’m still getting emails for the adult blog project, and the waiting list goes very long, but the good news is, I’m currently experimenting an evolution of the adult blog project, mixed with the be a whore post, added to some of the latest moneymaking tips I got. If it goes well, I’ll create an adult blog project v2, still free and still private. And Everybody on the waiting list will get access to this new project.

Besides I’m having 2 other projects to share with you but no time to prepare them yet!!! So probably you’ll discover them around may or june, so if you didn’t do it yet, subscribe to my RSS feed to be sure not to miss those.

Now, why do I say that you have to write an e-book? I’ll tell you my little story.
I began in the business of internet marketing in 2004 when I decided to write an ebook.
You know the trick: You choose a subject that you know. You write an ebook. You sell it, and you become rich.
Of course it doesn’t work so easily, but it was a good project, I learned many things, and it really got me started in this business.
It took me around 6 month working part-time, because I knew nothing at the time… SEO? Affiliate? What? I had to learn everything along the way.
I picked up a subject, wrote a 50 pages ebook about it.
I did some keyword research with wordtracker, and registered a domain with those keywords, then set-up and SEO’ed a website.
I did some backlinks building, nothing fancy, mostly by hand.

I waited then for the money to flow, but nothing, I was really disappointed (first lesson, don’t expect to become rich so easily!) so I didn’t take care anymore about the website. But after 6 months, I got my first sale! Still it wasn’t enough to make me spend more time marketing it. (first mistake, you always have to be patient, and put the effort to make money). Anyway after one year, when I checked the sales, I realized that I had made $600! Totally passive income. Imagine if I had worked a bit more to get more traffic.
I had to close it for some personal reasons, but I decided to re-open it in 2006.
Meanwhile, some domain squatters had already bought my domain to put some domain parking on it :)
So I used the same name and added “tips” : “xxxxx.com” became “xxxxxtips.com” so I could have the same keywords in the domain name
And I added a blog.
This one is really what everyone should do when they sell an ebook.
You look at any ebook landing page, you see it is always this big white page with a long speech and testimonials. They all look the same.
But by adding a blog, I think it gives some trust to the people, because

1) you give some info to people, if it is good enough, they see you’re not going to sell them a crappy ebook.

2) By seeing some activity, they know that your site is still maintained, it doesn’t looks like old stuff (even if you wrote your ebook 4 years ago like me).

What’s my routine? I write a short article on the blog, every two month. If my article is too big, I cut it in several pieces.
I wait a bit to get my new post indexed by Google.
Finally, I go to those articles directories, and submit my article to get some traffic/backlinks.

I have maybe a dozain of articles since 2006, and spend an evening once every two months for writing the new article, but I could write more articles if I wanted to market more my ebook.

Results? I get a steady 150 visits per day and make a couple of hundreds per month.
Having a blog really increase my organic traffic and my sales.

So I advise you to write an ebook, it’s not a big instant moneymaker, but with consistance and patience, you can get a nice passive income.
And you’ll learn many things along the way.
There is the majority of people who try to make money on the internet and fail/don’t make a lot. I believe that one thing that the successfull minority has, is patience and consistence. Yes, you can try to make big and quick money, but ALWAYS work on some long-term side project, even if you earn nothing now.

It’s like the stocks market. You can make a lot of money quickly but it is not easy. Or you can make good money on the long-term if you take some safe stocks that you know for sure they work with time. But of course, it is more boring, and you need more patience.

Some long-term project is basically everything that involves creating your website around a subject you know: Sell an ebook, but could also be to set-up a community through a forum, or create a resources website (like those myspace goodies websites)…
You have plenty of opportunities, just take action now!!!

Never pay for Adwords.

Filed under: General — Alan @ 4:25 pm

Hi guys, this blog has been quiet for a while, I must say that I spend quite some time for support on the adult blogs project, and the newsletter project.
I can also say that the second starts to give some good results for a few people who are delivering the effort, so I’m happy with it.
I’ve got a big dilemma because it’s really difficult to add more people to these projects, as it would spoil some of the tricks, and besides I have at least 3 other new projects that I could share with you, but if I would open sections for them, I would not have the time for my own work anymore. I have to think of a solution about this.

Anyway, meanwhile, I am experimenting with a funny little project that I will describe soon on this blog, I call it “Be a whore”, because it is not far from it. As you must imagine, this is another adult related thing.

But today I want to give a warning about “Google adwords for free”.

You can find several ebooks on the subject, that promise to give some trick to use adwords and still not pay for your ads.
As this seemed too good to be true, I have read several of those ebooks, and I must say that those promises are among the most misleading I have seen in my experience of crappy ebooks.

Let’s take again the sentence:
“Don’t pay for your adwords click”

And let me explain you the trick which is explained in the ebooks (I’m gonna save you the money):

1 – Set adwords ads to attract people to your website.
2 – Sell something on your website, so you earn more money than you spend on adwords.

Voila, because you earn more than you spend, one can say you are not paying for your adwords click.

Who said “Are you fucking kidding me?” ??? ;)

This is really the kind of marketing ebook that I hate, not only because you waste your money on it, but also because it is another evidence to make you feel that you can’t make money on the internet, which is of course false.

So be warned, if you find anyone who wants to sell you a secret not to pay adwords, don’t trust it at all.

But I will not leave you without a good tip to get similar to Adwords, but for free. I could make an ebook out of it, and I won’t be surprised when someone will do it.
Anyway, my advice is: Get registered on Google Local Business.
In case you don’t know, Google Local Business allows any company to register and gives its info, including its URL. The info will be displayed during a Google search when relevant, at the top of the page, making it even more visible than adwords. And IT IS FREE.
Register at Google Local Business

Be careful to choose a real address as there will be a verification letter sent to you.
And as today there are still a lot of good opportunities, e.g.:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=dating+dallas
vs
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=dating+miami

So see you soon and be ready to “be a whore” :)

Make money with a newsletter – private section open

Filed under: General, Money, Tools and scripts — Alan @ 12:54 pm

Hi everybody,

I have opened the private section for the project “Make money by creating your newsletter“.

Subscription is FREE, but LIMITED.

In the private section, I am sharing more powerful tricks to increase the effectiveness (and reduce the effort) of the project. You can guess that I can’t release the tricks openly, otherwise they would get spoiled, and would become useless.

If you want to be part of the private section, hurry-up, send an email to nlproject@ideasbeta.com

Note: Sorry, enough people have already answered and the subscription is closed.

Also, I am about to share some of my private ressource on another private section, stay tuned! It will be some powerful suff I use for one of my main sources of income : The 40,000 pageviews a day goal. I reached this goal since a while, and now, the infos/scripts and tools I used are mature enough to be shared with a few people who are really motivated to make it this year.

2008 resolution : Make it this year

Filed under: General — Alan @ 1:44 am

First of all I wish you a happy and successful new year.

Since I started my blog, I have often received emails of people asking for help, they were trying to make money on the internet, but were unsuccessful.
This is a real problem for many, you can get a lot of information on how to make money, but usually, there is too much overload, and it is difficult to find THE way to achieve it. It always seems like a race to find THE information that will make you rich.
So let me give you the big secret.

To make money on the internet you have two choices :
- either you know THE place or THE people that will give you THE secret,
- or you jump in the swimming pool, and learn to swim.

The first one is not impossible, but it will take you time anyway. Don’t expect people leaking out their big secrets for nothing, unless you happen to be the best friend of one of those people, but even then, you’re in a bad position because when THE big secret will not be “hot” anymore, you will be helpless to make money.
So you can spend the time to “network”, and with time you will “virtually” meet the ones who can give you good tips, but anyway, at this point you will have to be good too, and also be able to give other people nice tips. So, in the end, it is not more different than the second choice : jump in the pool, and learn to swim.
And this is where most people are failing, they read a lot of information, but they never put their mind into one project, so they read, try something for a while, fail, and repeat.
Even worse, many people actually NEVER start to work on one project, they will find a thousand excuses, that’s exactly like when you want to stop smoking all year long but never start it.

The internet is like the gold rush era… Anyone can be successful, it doesn’t depends on your family, your relations, your skin color… But you can’t expect to dig a bit and immediately find big nuggets!

So the first big secret to be successful in making money on the internet is… Start a project! Yes, read it again: Start a project. You can read a zillion blogs with great ideas, but you’ll only get the USEFUL knowledge with EXPERIENCE. So, whatever you might think, even if a project seems totally out-of-date, just start it now because even if you don’t make money, you’ll get experience. And little by little, you’ll get the good knowledge, you’ll start to know the tricks, the people, share ideas, make money and then it’s a virtuous circle: you’ll make more and more money, until you’re one of the $50K+ a month club.
But you must start today.

The second secret to really make it, and this is probably the most important is to be CONSISTENT. Don’t give up too quickly on one project. Usually it takes months before you start to really get results. I know everybody wants everything fast “yeah I’m on a diet to lose 8 pounds a month”, come on, GET REAL, how do you see yourself in exactly one year? Do you want to have some money-making online business, or still be searching for THE great idea?

The third big secret, is: don’t forget that the internet is huge, the sky’s the limit.
Not every project is profitable, but when you make money with one, try to EXPAND it.
I do myself the mistake of working on new projects regularly, instead of taking my successful projects and expanding them. I can do it, because I can afford it, but for most of you, you want to make enough in order to pay your bills first. When you will have several profitable money-making machines, you can allow you to digress like I do and have fun on new projects, but FIRST create ONE good source of income.
The very good advantage with the internet is that it is GLOBAL and it is HUGE, and it with the same amount of effort, your earnings don’t add, they multiply. It might take you 3 months before you make $1 a day, but with the same effort on the same project, it will take you another 3 months to make maybe $10 a day, and 3 months later you could be doing $50-$100 a day. Within next year you could reach the $500-$1000 a day if you’re consistent enough. I am not joking. But most of people will not put the consistency into one project, and many will not even really start it.

Much later, you can start to think about multiple streams of income, but not now, first get ONE good project, and do it to the max.

I found an interesting idea in another blog: instead of choosing good resolutions for this new year, you should choose only ONE WORD which will guide you through the year. I think this is great, and to paraphrase it, I’ll ask you to choose ONE project and do it all year long. You might try other projects IN PARALLEL, but don’t give up on this one project during 2008. Take any you want, maybe one that you wanted to do since ages, or a new one that you find exciting, don’t worry to know if it is “hot stuff” or “so 2005″, just start it and put some effort into it.
And come back in one year to tell me how much you’ve earned.

So, as promised, I have detailed in my last post the project idea I’ve worked on, I tried to be creative, twist some ever-working ideas and update them with some recent strategies, my starting point was to find an idea that a beginner could do, without investing any money.
More seasoned people will already have ideas to improve it, and also there are a few hot tips that would make the system much more efficient, but I can’t reveal them openly, so I’ll create another “private” project, like I did with the adult blogs project. I will limit the subscriptions to 40 people, and IT WILL BE FREE, just like the adult blog project. But don’t worry, even if you are not part of it, you can take the public information, do the project and make money with it. It is just that I have to limit some tips to a limited number of people or they would become useless… Stay tuned!

And let’s get working!

Want to start making money today?

Filed under: General, Money, Tools and scripts — Alan @ 5:16 pm

I updated my Free Pad Submitter, cleaned faulty websites and added a couple of new ones.

The main change is  that it is now multi-threaded, and thus goes as fast as your internet connection is!

I am sorry I didn’t release the full version yet, I am quite busy but I am going to put some work this month to be able to release the v1.0

Anyway, you can download it now.

Also I am still working on this new project which can be done by anybody, I feel like giving you the details already, especially because I know that during the christmas period, people have  some free time, so that would be perfect to start working and make some money. However I would like to experiment further to give you really good tips. Don’t hesitate to shout and leave a comment, say what you prefer… have the project details already, with still a few parts to tweak, or wait another month and get the full report?

Subdomains or subdirectories?

Filed under: General — Alan @ 11:58 pm

Should you use subdomains or subdirectories when creating multiple websites under one domain?
This is a recurring question, so let me treat it here with more attention.

First you have to understand that subdomains are considered by Google as different domains.
e.g.:
http://my1.ideasbeta.com
http://my2.ideasbeta.com
http://my3.ideasbeta.com

are considered as 3 domains
whereas

http://www.ideasbeta.com/my1
http://www.ideasbeta.com/my2
http://www.ideasbeta.com/my3

are obviously considered as 1 domain.

When you do a search on google, it tries to find the correct results into its database for EACH domain.
So let’s say you have 10 subdomains with some similar content, you might appear ten times in Google results (I said similar, non duplicate).
And if you have the same content on one domain with subdirectories, you will be displayed one time.

Do you start to see the advantages of using subdomains?
Be careful though to create several pages on each subdomain. If you just create many subdomains with only a few pages, it can be considered as spam by Google.

Now if you think that subdomains are considered as different domains, another interesting (mis-)use is to have many subdomains, all of them indexed through links on other “trusted” websites.
Then have all the subdomains point to one main domain. Voila, you get a powerful link building technique.
